What is Shaolin Kung Fu?
Shaolin Kung Fu offers one of the most comprehensive systems of martial arts
by combining a diverse, multi-faceted approach to health, fitness, and
self-defense with cultural and artistic style. Training methods within the Shaolin
martial arts not only increases one's self-awareness and discipline, but
produces many benefits required to live a long happy life; Increase of flexibility,
range of motion, cardiorespiratory and muscular endurance, strength,
speed/reaction, coordination, concentration, focus, decreased stress and anxiety,
just to name a few.

Shaolin Training Methods
Shaolin Kung Fu uses a wide variety of training methods to develop superior life skills (mind, body, & spirit)
and self-defense; Punching, kicking, jumping, ground movements, short/long movements, internal/external
movements, and much more. Short movements are quick, powerful, and stable. The footwork is steady and
agile with a strong emphasis on fast hand techniques and lower leg maneuvers. Long movements are
extended, quick, changeable, powerful, and rhythmic (circular & flowering). The footwork is stable with
multiple high/low postures. This includes jumping, dodging, and rolling. Overall training combines both long
and short methods with dynamic footwork allowing one to achieve their health, fitness, and self-defense
goals.

At The Citong Shaolin Kung-Fu Academy, we have a world class
Kung-Fu / Taiji (Tai Chi) program for beginners of all ages as well as advanced
athletes.  Our training methods help build a strong healthy body and mind,
concentration, coordination, flexibility, agility, endurance, strength, speed,
stress management, weight control, and the ability to defend oneself.

Traditional Youth, Teen and Adult Kung-Fu Programs
Our traditional Kung-Fu programs are taught on health and fitness,
comprehensive, and professional levels, depending on the member’s goals.  
Initial emphasis is placed on developing proper Kung-Fu fundamentals and
fitness.  Members are taught a variety of basic kicks, strikes, stance work, and
basic jumps.  Later, members go onto learn a variety of empty hand and
weapon (age appropriate) routines.  Members who are interested in self-defense
application and reaction drills will be given specific training and instruction geared toward their specific goals.

Traditional Yang Style Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan)
Taiji (Tai Chi) and Qigong (Breath Control) are combined into one unique health and fitness program.  Taiji is
characterized by slow, relaxed, soft, flowing movements that strengthens the body and calms the mind.  Taiji
benefits include: good posture, relaxation, balance, coordination, range of motion, increased joint and bone
strength, reduction in blood pressure and stress, improved circulation, improved immune function, and
oxygen utilization.  Taiji emphasizes complete relaxation and is essentially a form of moving meditation.  
Our Taiji program is geared for everyone; from the most athletic, to those who need to rehabilitate injuries,
those who suffer from arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, stroke, osteoporosis, and chronic pain.
